After wrapping up play on Sunday at the Northern Iowa Invitational in Waterloo, Iowa, the Minnesota women's tennis team will travel to Evanston, Ill. this weekend to compete in Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational, which begins on Friday.

Aside from the Gophers and host Wildcats, the field at the three-day tournament will include competitors from eight other schools. In addition to Big Ten members Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, players from South Carolina, Western Michigan, Illinois-Chicago, DePaul, and Oklahoma will be also make the trip.

Minnesota will send seven players to the event, six of whom will compete in both singles and doubles play.

Alexa Palen and Magdalena Wiecha, who placed third in the top doubles flight at the Gopher Invitational two weeks ago with a 3-1 record, will represent the Gophers in the Flight A doubles bracket.

Doron Muravnik will make her 2011-12 doubles debut alongside freshman Julia Courter, who went 2-2 with fellow first-year player Aria Lambert in the team's opening tournament. Lambert will be paired with sophomore Emilie Renault, who is also competing in doubles play for the first time this year. Both Gopher tandems will compete in Flight B.

Palen will play singles tennis for the first time this year as the lone Gopher in the top flight. With records of 3-1 and 2-1, respectively, Courter and Wiecha will compete in Flight B, while Lambert (1-3 in singles) and Muravnik (2-1 in singles) will play in Flight C.

Renault and Pauline Gilbert, who had a combined 4-4 singles record at the UNI Invitational last weekend, will appear in Flight D.

Following the tournament at Northwestern, the Gophers next event will be the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
