Minnesota Outlasted by No. 46 Iowa, 4-3

MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota tennis team fell to No.46 Iowa, 4-3, on Friday night at the Baseline Tennis Center, dropping to 10-16 on the season.
 
Key Moments
Minnesota secured the doubles point against Michigan State, winning two of three matches in doubles play. Mia Liepert and Nora Knezevic opened with a 6-0 victory over Nikita Vishwase and Pia Kranholdt at the No. 3 position. Iowa answered at No. 1 doubles, where Jeselle Ante and Sofia Pinto fell 6-2 to Mia Mack and Tereza Dejnozkova. The Hawkeyes clinched the point at the No. 2 spot as Anlin Xie and Arina Valitova fell to Sally Xu and Daianne Hayashida 6-4.
 
Iowa clinched the match with singles wins in the order of No. 2, No. 1, and No. 3.  Mia Liepert opened play with a retirement win against Tereza Dejnozkova at the No. 2 position. Minnesota responded with straight-set victories, including a 6-4, 6-0 win by Nora Knezevic over Sally Xu at No. 6, followed by Anlin Xie defeating Pia Kranholdt 6-4, 6-0. Iowa answered at No. 1, where No. 67 Mia Mack defeated Jeselle Ante 7-5, 6-2. Minnesota followed with a victory at No. 4 as Sofia Pinto defeated Nikita Vishwase 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, before the match was clinched at No. 3, where Daianne Hayashida defeated Aiva Schmitz 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.
