Minnesota Kicks off 2012 Track Season this Weekend

The No. 15 Minnesota men's track and field team is set to open up the 2012 indoor season this weekend. The Gophers will be in two locations to kick off 2012. One portion of the team will be at the Holiday Inn Invitational (Friday-Saturday) and the rest of the squad will be at home at the Northwest Open on Saturday.

LAST SEASON REVIEW
Minnesota is coming off their third straight Big Ten indoor championship title. The Gophers return a good portion of its squad from a year ago with Harun Abda, Jack Szmanda, Ryan Todhunter, Hassan Mead and Micah Hegerle are just a few names to list. A portion of the squad will be competing at the Holiday Inn in Nebraska, while others will be at home competing at the Northwest Open.
THE GOLDEN GOPHER COACHING STAFF
Steve Plasencia enters his fourth season as the Golden Gophers head women's track & field coach. Plasencia was Plasencia was awarded his fifth consecutive Big Ten Coach of the Year award, adding the 2011 indoor accolade to those from the 2009 and 2010 indoor and outdoor seasons. Plasencia heads an extremely experienced coaching staff that includes assistants Scott Berggren, Paul Thornton, Lynden Reder, Steve White and Roy Griak.
