Minnesota's throwing group has been very consistent over the last couple of years and that is very important when it comes to the Big Ten conference meet. This year should be no different for the Gopher Men's throwers as they return three solid student-athletes, which have the experience the Gophers need.

"We have had a successful group of throwers over the last couple of years," Minnesota throwing coach Lynden Reder said. "We have a talented group of individuals, but individuals who all have the same goals in mind. They push each other and are very competitive, but want to see the other guy perform well."

The key names to keep an eye out or this indoor season will be sophomore Micah Hegerle, junior Quentin Mege and senior Trey Davis.

Hegerle is coming off a Big Ten championship title performance in the weight throw. The sophomore tossed it 69-10 ¾ feet and currently holds the school record with a launch of 71-3 ½ feet. Mege took fifth a year ago at the Big Ten championships with toss of 66-9 ¾ feet.

"Having both Micah (Hegerle) and Quentin (Mege) is a great one-two punch for us," Reder said. "If we can get both of them to score high at the conference meet, we will be in good shape."

In the shot put, Davis returns for his senior season with high hopes in closing out his career. Davis took fifth at the Big Ten's with a throw of 59-9 ½ feet.

"Trey is looking really good so far and we are excited to see what he can do this year."

A couple other names that may be a in the mix of things is Mark Jennings and Jon Lehman. Jennings is looking to get into the mix of things after redshirting his freshman season a year ago.

"Mark (Jennings) is just a really neat story," Reder said. "He has done nothing but show massive improvements since the last year and we are excited to get him in the mix of things."

Lehman is a redshirt sophomore from Coon Rapids, Minn.

"Jon Lehman is guy that has really come along lately and will look to contribute early on."

One thing is for sure, this group has the talent level and experience to help bring back a Big Ten team title come March.
