The Golden Gopher cross country team hosted the fifth annual edition of Jack's Run on a beautiful fall day at Les Bolstad Golf Course. Gopher junior Cassy Opitz was the top women's finisher in the open six-kilometer race.
Opitz's crossed the finish line in 22:30.01, more than 11 seconds ahead of teammate Kate Bucknam. The Gophers took the top five spots in the race, as Annie Talajkowski, Jamie Vandenberg, and Kaitlin Mincke finished after Opitz and Bucknam.
Jack's Run was created to honor the late Minnesota equipment manager Jack Johnson, who served as the Golden Gophers' equipment manager for over three decades. He passed away in February of 2006 after a battle with cancer. Donations accepted at the race will go to support the Jack Johnson Endowed Scholarship and the Angel Foundation of Minnesota.
Minnesota will travel to Michigan State for the Big Ten Championships next Sunday, Oct. 28.
