Postgame Quotes
Minnesota (10-3) 86, Northern Iowa (4-7) 43
Williams Arena - Minneapolis, Minn.
Minnesota Head Coach Pam Borton
Opening statement:
"I was really pleased with how we played after having 11 days off. I think after 11 days going into exams and heading into Christmas break, you really wonder how your team is going to play. I was really please with how we came out, showed up, and played a great all-around game. We're getting better each and every night out."
On the importance of the first few minutes tonight:
"I think it's every game. I think it's a mindset that we have as a team. I thought we did a great defensively in setting the tone. I thought Rachel (Banham) really came out and set the tone offensively for our team. That just fuels everybody and gives everybody else confidence."
On the re-match of the WBI championship game:
"We have a completely different team on the floor than we had last year. Everybody's different, from who's playing the big minutes out there, who's starting, other than Rachel. I think everybody else is completely different. I think this team has a lot of potential."
Minnesota Players
On how relaxed she felt on the court:
"I think game by game I'm starting to get more comfortable and as my minutes have increased, I've gained more confidence."
On how she is adapting as a freshman:
"There are about four of us freshmen and we've all been able to room together, so we all get along. We're all working really hard and we're able to adjust to each other during the summer, so when we came in the fall it was a smoother transition, which was a great advantage."
On adapting to the game on both sides of the ball:
"Every game I feel like I'm adapting more and more especially during practice the last two weeks. I've been able to focus on the things I need to get better at. I like to rebound, that's a big part of my
game, but I'm also trying to work on my drive so I'm not just a jump shot shooter, specifically setting better screens for my teammates and boxing out."
