THE OPENING TIP - QUICK NOTES
• The University of Minnesota women's basketball team begins a season-long five game homestand Wednesday when it hosts Denver in a 7:00 p.m. matchup at Williams Arena.
• A live video stream of the contest will be available on Gopher All-Access, as well at BTN.com.
• Fans can also listen to the game against the Pioneers live on KBEM Jazz 88.5 FM, with Corbu Stathes and Lynnette Sjoquist on the call.
• The Golden Gophers are 6-3 on the season following back-to-back losses to Virginia, in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and No. 20/20 Kansas, in their lone non-conference road game.
• Two of those losses have come away from the friendly confines of Williams Arena, with the Gophers holding a 4-1 record on their home court this season.
• Denver enters Wednesday's contest with an even 3-3 record on the season.
• After starting off the year 0-3, the Pioneers have won three-straight contests vs. UC Irvine, Northern Colorado and Oregon.
• Minnesota trails the Pioneers, 0-2, in the all-time series, which dates back to November 25, 2000.
• Wednesday's matchup will be the first between the two squads in Minneapolis.
• Since Pam Borton's arrival at Minnesota, the Gophers are 59-10 in non-conference, regular-season home games.
• During that time, the Gophers have never lost more than two games in a season to non-conference foes in Minneapolis.
• Rachel Banham needs only 247 more points to become the 21st Gopher in program history to notch 1,000 career points.
• With the guard averaging 19.2 points per game, she could possibly reach the milestone in Minnesota's Big Ten matchup vs. Michigan on Jan. 31 at Williams Arena.
• Banham currently paces Minnesota in scoring with her 19.2 points per game average, while also boasting team-highs with 38 assists and 23 steals.
• In Minnesota's contest at No. 20/20 Kansas, senior Katie Loberg tallied five blocks in a single game for the first time since Nov. 19, 1995.
