Emily West Named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

University of Minnesota left winger Emily West, who notched a three-goal hat trick among her four weekend tallies to power the No. 2-ranked Golden Gophers to a two-game conference road sweep at Minnesota State, has been named the WCHA Women's Offensive Player of the Week for Feb. 1.
A senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., West scored three times and was named the First Star of the Game in Minnesota's 6-3 victory over the host Mavericks last Friday (Jan. 27) in Mankato, marking her first collegiate hat trick. One of her three markers was the game-winner, coming at 5:53 of the second period, and she also fired seven shots on goal and earned a +2 plus/minus rating. West then completed her productive series with another goal and six more shots on goal on Saturday (Jan. 28) as the Gophers prevailed by a 4-1 margin.
With the four goals, West has reached 140 career points at Minnesota. She also now has 71 career goals and has moved into ninth place on the school's all-time list of top goal scorers. Through 26 games played this season, she is averaging a point per game with 16 goals, 10 assists and 26 points.
The Gophers play at St. Cloud State this weekend with games Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Center.
