The Minnesota men's gymnastics team is going for its fifth straight victory on the season this weekend against the UIC Flames.
Minnesota has already beaten UIC twice this season. The Gophers finished ahead of the Flames at the Windy City Invitational and beat them at home a week later by a score of 339.4-321.3.
The Gophers are coming off a home win over Nebraska last weekend, where they tallied their highest point total of the season with a 345.6.
"We retained our sixth place national ranking this past week with our win over Nebraska," head coach Mike Burns said. "The key this week is to come away from Chicago with a win. We also hope to come away with a great performance and a great score on the road."
The Gophers have performed well on the road this season. They are continuing to increase their hit percentage and improve their execution. Now that the physical component is less of a challenge, the team is focused on the mental aspect of competition.
"As we enter the second half of our dual meet season we are looking to increase our comfort level on the competition floor and focus on the elimination of large errors," Burns said. "We are starting to look like a team that has the makings of greatness, so this week we need to believe in that and perform accordingly."
This is the team's second trip to UIC this year with the first being the Windy City Invitational. The meet will be held on Saturday at 5pm.
