Gophers Tally New Season-High on the Road

The No. 6 Gopher men's gymnastics team had another successful showing on the road today. The Gophers beat the No. 13 UIC Flames by a final score of 345.8-333.1.
The Gophers' 345.8 is a new season-high, and they have now finished ahead of UIC in all three meetings with the Flames this season. The victory was Minnesota's fifth straight on the year.
Senior Russell Dabritz was the meet's top performer. He won three of his four events, recording several season-high scores in the process.
Dabritz finished first on the high bar with a 14.4. He scored a personal best 15.2 on the still rings and also posted a career-high on the parallel bars. His 15.3 on the paralllel bars is among some of the highest scores in the country on the event.
"Russell did outstanding for us tonight," head coach Mike Burns said. "He was the last athlete to perform for us and after a couple of rough routines on the parallel bars it was nice for him to put the exclamation point on the end of the meet."
Steve Jaciuk also had a standout night. The freshmen finished second on the parallel bars with a 14.8 and second on the high bar with a 14.3.
John Scallon hit a new and difficult pommel horse routine. His performance earned him a 15.1 and a first place finish on the event.
Other notable performers were Adam Kern, Adam LaFleur, and freshman Sean Bauer. The trio tied for first on the vault, each posting a 14.7. Kern also finished second on the floor exercise with a 14.7. The meet was Bauer's first competition of the season and the first of his college career.
"Overall, we had a pretty good meet," Burns said. "We had good scores throughout most of the competition. But our last two events, the high bar and parallel bars, were lower than we would have liked. To get a 345.8 on the road is pretty impressive for us at this point. We're looking forward to coming back home this weekend and adding to that score."
