The University of Minnesota baseball team fell to Stony Brook, 5-4, today at the H.H.H. Metrodome. With the loss, the Golden Gophers drop to 7-8, while the Seawolves improve to 7-5.

The Gophers were led by Dan Olinger, who went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Andy Henkemeyer was 2-4 with a run scored. Matt Puhl and Troy Larson also went 1-3.

Stony Brook pushed across three in the first inning for the early lead. William Carmona hit a two-run home run to right field, while Kevin Krause later drove in Maxx Tissenbaum for the 3-0 lead. Stony Brook would leave one runner on base in the inning and had five hits.

Minnesota, however, cut the lead to one when it scored twice in the second inning. Puhl had an RBI single that drove home Olinger, who started off the inning with a single. Tony Skjefte added another run when he hit a grounder to second base, scoring Henkemeyer from third.

In the top of the fifth, Stony Brook plated its fourth run of the game when Tissenbaum led off with a double and would later score on a Tanner Nivins sacrifice fly. Minnesota, came right back in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game. With back-to-back walks by Larson and David Bettenburg and a sacrifice bunt by Kurt Schlangen, Olinger delivered a center field RBI single. Juan had a grounder to second, which scored Bettenburg to tie the game at 4-4.

After the two teams went scoreless in the sixth, Carmona lifted his second home run of the game for the eventual game-winning run. Although the Seawolves had a bases loaded threat in the eighth inning, Minnesota did not allow a run. The Gophers also had a threat in the eighth inning, but stranded two.

Austin Lubinsky started the game and had the no decision. He pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs. Kevin Kray allowed his first earned runs of the season and had the loss in 3.0 innings of work. Kyle O'Shea (0.1) and Drew Ghelfi (1.2) also pitched in the game.

Jasvir Rakkar had the win (1-1), while Carmona moved from third base to pitcher and collected the save.
