The Big Ten Conference announced Monday afternoon that sophomore Sara Moulton and freshman Kaitlyn Richardson were tagged with Big Ten honors for their efforts at the Embassy Suites Invitational this past weekend. Moulton garnered her third Pitcher of the Week honor while Richardson was named Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week.
Moulton went 2-1 in the circle for the Gophers and finished with a spotless ERA. The sophomore from Eagan, Minn. fanned 34 batters in her three appearances, including 14 strikeouts that came in her no-hit performance against Florida Atlantic. It was her second no-hitter of the season and only the 16th in Gopher history. Moulton allowed a total of seven hits and walked two batters in the tournament.
The Pitcher of the Week honor is Moulton's third this season and fourth of her career.
Richardson headed the Gophers charge at the plate by posting a .538 batting average (7-for-13) and 1.436 OPS. The freshman infielder tallied three multi-hit games, including a pair of games where she went perfect from the plate. The Phoenix, Ariz. native scored five runs, drove in three Gophers and roped three doubles in the Minnesota's five-game stint.
This is Richardson's second-straight Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor.
As a team, the Gophers went 3-2 at the Embassy Suites Invitational to improve to 17-6 on the season. Minnesota's two losses were each one-run affairs to Providence and Boston College.
The Maroon and Gold set sail for Boise, Idaho this week, where they play five games in the SpringHill Suites Invitational.
