Throwers Ready to Battle in Austin

This weekend the Minnesota men's throwers will be heading south to compete at the Texas Relays, in Austin, TX. The event is a three-day competition hosted by the University of Texas. Action gets underway for the Gophers Thursday at 11:30 a.m. CST, with the discus throw.

ATHLETES IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND

Justin Barber, Dominique Howard, Trey Davis, Mark Jennings, Jon Lehman and Quentin Mege

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE THROWERS

Trey Davis and Mark Jennings took the top two spots in the shotput at the Aztec Invitational earlier this month. Davis had a mark of 58- ¼ (17.68) and Jennings finished with a distance of 55 7 ½ (16.95m). Davis also won a title in the discus with a throw of 177-2 (54.01m).

The throwers took three out of the top five in the hammer throw. Micah Hegerle finished second overall with a toss of 207-04 (63.20m). Quentin Mege was third with a mark of 202-08 (61.78) and Jon Lehman was fourth with a throw of 188-0 (57.30m).

Senior Paul Hoplin finished sixth overall with a throw of 184-09 (56.32m) and teammate Jake Malm was right behind him in sixth with a mark of 177-09 (54.19m).

NEXT WEEKEND

Next week the Gophers will be back on the tack out west competing at the Stanford Invitational in Palo, Alto, CA., April 6-7.
