After entering the final round with a one-stroke lead, Erik Van Rooyen bogeyed three of his first four holes. He played steady golf the rest of the way, but was unable to regain the lead. He finished in a tie for third place as Minnesota finished seventh at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
The Golden Gophers' 304 (+16) on Sunday was their highest of the three rounds, and they finished at 891 (+27) for the weekend. Van Rooyen's 74 (+2) today brought him to 4-under-par overall. The tie for third was his best career finish.
Robert Bell also shot a 74 today, and finished 9-over (t-29th). David Haley Jr. (+10), Tyler Lowenstein (+16), and Jon Trasamar (+17) also competed this weekend for the Gophers.
Host LSU (-11) won the tournament by two strokes over Iowa. The Tigers' Austin Gugtsell (-9) made a surge on the final day, shooting a 65 to win by four strokes over Purdue's Jakob Ziegler.
Minnesota's next event is the Hawkeye Classic in Iowa City (April 14-15).
