Hello to all women's tennis fans!
Another weekend is behind us and another two matches as well. The first team we played was Indiana on Friday afternoon. Everybody was pretty excited because we were playing at home and we knew that we could do big things this weekend. As usual, we had our normal pre-match routine: confidence practice, our favorite sandwiches from Potbelly's and from Erbert and Gerbert's, and a pre-match speech.
It was my turn on Friday to pump the girls up. I think they liked my super PowerPoint presentation. Let's just say, we are not a women's tennis team anymore, we are a team of law and order!
First, we started with doubles. Mag and Tash were supreme and won the first doubles match, but unfortunately Jules and Lambo lost their match even though they played very well. Then we were witnesses of an incredible match. Lex and D were down 7-4, but they were still able to win and earned us the first point! Tyler was so excited that he even screamed in our locker room where we had a meeting before singles.
We had to change our lineup for singles because Julia couldn't play because of her wrist. Instead, she took the spot of our fifth cheerleader along with Po, Em, Ellie, and Mag, who did an amazing job of cheering. Aria played fifth and Yuli got to play sixth.
As you may already know, we just dominated Indiana in singles. Only Tash had a dramatic match. She was the only one who played three sets, but she made it and we celebrated our 7-0 win at Tony's Diner. Almost everybody had pancakes!
We got back in action on Sunday morning against another Big Ten opponent, Purdue. We started the day with our pre-match routine again, with breakfast, as well as going to the training room and warming up. It was time for Julia's speech on Sunday.
She was very excited. She kept talking about her upcoming speech for the whole week and she was really prepared! Her speech had three parts and the last part was the best. We got sooo much candy, but nobody knows where the candy ended up because when we finished our singles there was no candy left. Isn't that weird? Somebody has quite a big reserve of chocolate right now.
Back to the matches! We lost two of our three doubles; only Lex and D won and proved that they are really good together. As on Friday, we had to change our lineup, as Lex was still not playing singles because of pain.
D, Yuli, and Aria tried really hard, but at the end they all lost their matches. Tash, Julia, and I all played three-set matches with happy endings. I was the last on the court. You know I love drama, so I thought that a third set tiebreaker was the best way to be dramatic!
We tried very hard but unfortunately were one point short of winning against Purdue. Next time we will get it! Our next game is on Friday, April 20, and we are going to do our best in Nebraska before we come back to Baseline on Sunday when we play Iowa (you'd better come!).
Thanks for supporting and cheering for us. We love it!
All the best,
Tereza/ Z/ Freshy/ Czechie
