Minnesota Seeded Sixth In Big Ten Tournament

The Big Ten Conference announced the seedings and pairings for the 2012 Womens' Tennis Tournament tonight. The Gophers, who finished the season 15-7 overall and 5-6 in the Big Ten, earned the sixth seed.
Minnesota begins tournament play at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, against No. 11 seed Iowa. The Gophers beat Iowa 6-1 last Sunday to end the regular season. The winner between Minnesota and Iowa will advance to face third-seeded Illinois at 2 p.m. on April 27. Minnesota lost 6-1 to Illinois at home on April 1.
This week's tournament has a similar feel to last year's conference tournament. A year ago, Minnesota beat Iowa 6-1 to end the regular season and then ended Iowa's season with a 4-2 win in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. Minnesota's post-season run a year ago then ended with a loss to top-seeded Michigan in the quarterfinals.
This year's tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday, with first-round matches beginning at 9 a.m. at Ohio State's Varsity Tennis Center. Friday will feature quarterfinal matches beginning at 9 a.m., while Saturday will showcase the tournament semifinals starting at 9 a.m. Sunday's championship match is scheduled for Noon ET BTN will air the championship match on tape delay on Wednesday, May 9 at 5 p.m.
