On the opening day of the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif., Golden Gopher junior Todea-Kay Willis won the long jump with a leap of 19-9 1/2 (6.03m). She is 3-for-3 in the event this outdoor season, previously winning at the Aztec Invitational (March 16) and Arkansas Invitational (March 31).

The hammer corps also provided highlights for Minnesota. Amy Kubat and Devin Stanford recorded personal-record throws of 171-02 (52.17m) and 166-08 (50.81m), respectively.

In the pole vault, Katie Murgic set a new PR of 12-07 1/2 (3.85m). She finished third and moved up to No. 8 all-time at Minnesota. Click here for full results from Saturday's events.

The meet concludes Sunday, with live results available here. The Janis Rider Invitational at Macalester is also tomorrow.

Closer to home in Des Moines, and in much cooler weather, just one Golden Gopher raced on the final day of the Drake Relays. Paige Orcutt finished 15th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal record time of 10 minutes, 48.56 seconds.

Overall, the Minnesota coaching staff was pleased with the Gophers' efforts at Drake. All four runners in Thursday's 4x1,600 relay were new to the event and are not primarily mile runners, but they still competed well and finished second. Assistant coach Sarah Hesser was particularly impressed with Laura Docherty's show of range: The sophomore recently cracked the school's top 10 list in the 10,000, and on Thursday she ran the Gophers' fastest 1,600m split in anchoring the relay (4:41).

Another pair of Gophers--Claire Rindo and Andrea Rediger--also experienced a first, running their first ever 10,000-meter race. Annie Talajkowski, who had raced in the event before, set a personal record Thursday (35:43.39). Hesser felt that the trio put forth a good effort, as did the 4x800 and distance medley relay teams that fought against cold, windy conditions on Friday.
