Gophers Close Out Rebel intercollegiate with Season-Best Round

Minnesota women's golf team carded its best round of the season (291) on the final day at the Rebel Intercollegiate. That score that was able to propel the team to a fifth place finish at the Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss. The round was the second-lowest among the 15 teams at the tournament.
Minnesota finished the three-day tournament with a season-best score of 899 (+35). Minnesota's fifth place finish for the tournament ties its best finished of the season. The Gophers also finished tied for fifth at the Clover Cup in March (the Clover Cup had only 12 teams competing).
Two freshmen had their best tournament of their young collegiate career. Carmen Laguna led the Gophers with a season-best card of 223 over the three days. She finished with a 74 on Sunday while Anna Laorr also carded a 74 and contributed a 54-hole score of 224. Both players 54-hole total surpassed their best by three strokes. Laguna tied for 11th among individuals, and Laorr finished tied for 14th.
Jackie Shepherd excelled Sunday. She led the Gophers with a round of 71 on the par-72 course. Shepherd finished with a 54-hole total of 225 for the weekend.
Banchalee Theinthong shot a stellar 72 on Sunday and finished the tournament with a score of 228. Sarinee Thitiratanakorn closed with a combined score of 234. She also had her best outing of the weekend Sunday by carding a 76.
Baylor University won the tournament with a 871 (+7), eight strokes ahead of second place Tulsa. Host, Mississippi, finished third with a final tournament score of 881. Baylor's Jaclyn Jansen was the individual champion with a 210 (-6). She finished one stroke ahead of Tulsa's Marita Engzelius.
Minnesota will be back in action April 21-22 in Columbus, Ohio at the Lady Buckeye.
