May 1, 2012
The Big Ten Conference announced today that Gopher sophomore Banchalee Theinthong has been named to the 2012 women's golf All-Big Ten Second Team. Theinthong is the first Gopher to be named All-Big Ten since Amy Dahle following the 1997 season.
Theinthong collected her third top-20 finish of the season by finishing in a tie for 20th place at the 2012 Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind. She paced the Gophers with a fourth place finish at the Lady Buckeye Invitational and tied a career low with a 54-hole card of 220 in the season-opening Cougar Classic.
A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Theinthong led Minnesota in the fall and spring seasons in stroke average at 75.2 and 76.2, respectively. Theinthong's combined stroke average of 75.8 this season is the fourth-lowest in the history of Minnesota golf and her current career average of 76.72 would be the second-lowest in Gopher Golf history but her 58 career rounds falls two shy of the minimum.
