Entering the second half of U.S.A. Olympic Trials for track and field, three former Golden Gophers remained on the schedule. Two of them--Gabriele Anderson and Heather (Dorniden) Kampf--competed and advanced in tonight's 1,500 meters qualifying heats.
Anderson turned in the second-fastest time in the 28-athlete field. She finished second in the second heat with a time of 4:14.23. Morgan Uceny, the only runner ahead of Anderson, posted a time of 4:14.07.
Kampf, who ran in the 800m final earlier in Trials, qualified out of the first heat. She crossed the finish line in 4:17.29.
Anderson, Kampf, and 22 other semi-finalists will race again on Friday at 5:45 p.m. CT. The top six in each heat, plus the next six fastest times, will advance to Monday's final.
Jamie Cheever will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final Friday night at 6:45 p.m. CT.
