Steenvoorden Leads Gophers on Sixth Day of Trials

Recent Minnesota graduate Ashley Steenvoorden was the Gophers' top finisher in Saturday's preliminaries of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, as she placed 14th overall in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 8:39.52 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb.
Sophomore Kiera Janzen was close behind Steenvoorden, clocking a time of 8:44.69 to secure a 21st place finish in the event overall, while Lissa Tommerdahl finished in 9:06.04 to place 60th overall.
In the 200-meter backstroke, junior Tess Behrens was Minnesota's top swimmer, finishing 72nd overall with a time of 2:17.48. Katie Anton clocked a time of 2:18.56 to tie for 106th place.
Tomorrow morning's preliminary schedule includes the 50-meter freestyle, while the evening will include semifinals of the event, as well as the finals of the 200-meter backstroke and 800-meter freestyle.
