Carmen Laguna and Jackie Shepherd Named All-American Scholars

The National Golf Coaches Association recently announced that University of Minnesota junior Jackie Shepherd and freshman Carmen Laguna have been named to the NGCA's All-American Scholar Team.
A minimum grade point average of 3.50 is required for consideration.
"We are certainly excited about what these two young ladies were able to accomplish in the class room," said Gopher head coach Michele Redman. "Both Jackie and Carmen have shown what it means to be a student athlete and they deserve this honor."
Shepherd, a native of Delafield, Wis., holds a grade point average of 3.879 with a double major of accounting and finance. She finished her junior campaign with a stroke average of 76.36, the second-lowest on the team and the eighth-lowest single-season effort in program history.
Also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Shepherd is coming off of a seventh place finish at the Big Ten Championships and will enter her senior season with a career stroke average of 77.62, currently the third-lowest in Gopher history.
Laguna finished her first year at Minnesota with a 3.556 grade point average. On the course, the native of Tomares-Sevilla, Spain, played in all 10 of the Gophers' tournaments and finished with a stroke average of 77.53, the third-lowest on the team.
A total of 585 NCAA Division I, II and III golfers earned All-American Scholar honors for 2012.
