Tyler Places 14th in Olympic 100 Breaststroke Semifinals

Former University of Minnesota swimmer Jillian Tyler finished 14th overall in the 100-meter breaststroke semifinals Sunday afternoon at the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London, England. Representing Canada, Tyler posted a time of 1:07.87 to close out her competition in the event.
The former Gopher qualified for the semis after finishing 15th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:07.81. She shaved .42 seconds off of her previous Olympic-best time of 1:08.13, which she recorded in her first Olympic appearance in Beijing, China in 2008.
Tyler will also compete in the women's 100-meter medley relay, which is set to take place on August 3 beginning at 11:35 a.m.
One of the most decorated swimmers in Minnesota history, Tyler was the NCAA Champion in the 100-yard breaststroke in her senior campaign in 2011 and was also a Honda Award Finalist. Tyler finished her Gopher career as a 13-time All-American, which included four-straight All-America honors in the 100-yard breaststroke, and an eight-time Big Ten Champion.
