Alex Gaugert Leads Gophers after First Day of Husky Invite

University of Minnesota junior Alex Gaugert registered rounds of even par 72 and three-over par 75 during first round play at the Husky Invitational in Washington. The Lake Geneva, Wis. native will head into the final round in a five-player tie for 13th place.
The Gophers are in 12th place overall in the 15-team invitational but places seven through 12 are only separated by 13 strokes. Tuesday's final round is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. CT and can be followed live at www.golfstat.com.
Senior Erik Van Rooyen, Minnesota's stroke leader a season ago, is two strokes back of Gaugert in a tie for 22nd place following rounds of 75 and 74. Freshman Jon DuToit, who tied with Van Rooyen for the Gophers' lead last week in his first collegiate start, is in a tie for 33rd place after carding a 36-hole score of 152 (76-76). Senior David Haley Jr. is alone in 66th place with a total of 165 (77-88) while sophomore Tyler Lowenstein is in 75th place (82-91).
The host University of Washington Huskies lead the team event by six strokes over Texas A&M with a first day combined total of 573.
