The University of Minnesota women's golf team combined for a team score of 300 in the final round of the Nittany Lion Invitational in Happy Valley on Sunday. The Gophers, who finished in fifth place, established a season-low 54-hole score of 898 over the weekend.
Sophomores Carmen Laguna and Sarinee Thitiratanakorn registered the lowest cards of the day for Minnesota with a pair of one-over par 73's. Laguna's 54-hole score of 223 (77-73-73) ties a career-low and was good for a tie for 15th place. Thitiratanakorn's weekend score of 224 (77-74-73) is also a career-low and placed her in a tie for 18th place.
Yet another Gopher sophomore, Anna Laorr, tied Thitiratanakorn and also tied a career-low with a 224 (73-73-78) of her own. Junior Banchalee Theinthong finished with a 229 (79-74-76) and in a tie for 33rd place while senior Jackie Shepherd carded a three-day total of 233 (77-77-79) and finished in a tie for 49th place. Sophomore Taylor Quinn finished in a tie for 69th place with a 239 (82-78-79).
All of the awards stayed home in Happy Valley, as Penn State won the team title with a score of 862, 24 strokes ahead of Harvard. The Crimson combined for the lowest score of the day with a 284. PSU's Ellen Ceresko won medalist honors with her score of 208.
Minnesota will be off for two weeks before traveling to Bloomington, Ind. for the Hoosier Fall Invitational Oct. 13-14.
