The Golden Gopher women's track team sent a small contingent to the Minnesota State Open in Mankato on Friday and Saturday. Minnesota brought back three event wins to Minneapolis.
Christina DeLakis led the team's efforts with her second-best shot put mark of the season. She won the event with a toss of 49-7 (15.11m). Melissa Flucke won the high jump and Nicole Murphey won the long jump.
Another highlight of the meet was Cami Gilson's debut in a Gopher uniform. She has already pole vaulted her way into Minnesota's all-time top-10 list, finishing second with a mark of 12-8 1/4 (3.87m), ninth-best in school history.
The Gopher weight throwers competed on Friday afternoon, with the jumpers, hurdlers and one 400-meter runner competing on Saturday. The rest of the team had a weekend off from competition after the Jack Johnson Classic.
"It was good to see Cami compete in the maroon and gold for the first time," director of track and field/cross country Matt Bingle said. "She had an impressive debut. It was also good to see Tina continue to perform well in the shot put. We have an important few weeks ahead of us, so we just need to keep improving and competing."
Next up on the Gophers' schedule is the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational (Feb. 1-2), followed by the ISU Classic (Feb. 8-9).
