Gophers Move To Sixth In National Rankings

The Minnesota men's gymnastics team moved from seventh to sixth in the latest Gyminfo National Rankings released on Monday.

The Gophers beat Air Force 430.600 - 404.450 last Saturday at home and as a result they leapfrogged Illinois in the national standings.

Penn State is No. 1 in the nation and is followed by Michigan, Oklahoma, Stanford, Ohio State and Minnesota. Illinois checks in at No. 7 and is followed by Iowa, Nebraska and California.

In specific events, the Gophers are ranked third on the high bar (70.675), fourth on the floor exercise (73.250), fourth on vault (73.075), seventh on still rings (72.125), seventh on parallel bars (70.150) and eighth on the pommel horse (68.900).

Individually, Harris Coleman is the lone Gopher ranked in the top 10 in an event. Coleman is tied for seventh in the nation on pommel horse with a 14.850 average.

Minnesota, which finished fourth at the season-opening Windy City Invitational on Jan. 19, returns to action at 7 p.m. this Saturday when the Gophers host Nebraska and UIC in the John Roethlisberger Iceberg Invitational.
