Aloha from beautiful Hawaii!
Two days into training trip, we are beginning to settle in to our new training schedules as well as island time. After our first practice, Coach Kelly challenged us to enjoy our surroundings as much as we can, but also to push ourselves to our limits and leave Hawaii in the best shape of our lives. And I think the fact that most of the team didn't make it past 830pm before falling asleep on the first night means we are on the right track to do just that!
What I enjoy most about Hawaii is the way the trip brings us together as a team. This trip is what binds us together into a "family", and that closeness is what enables us to contend for Big Ten titles and top NCAA rankings. This year we have a lot of opportunities to bond outside of the pool- including trips to the beach and some early morning shark diving!
Even when we are in the middle of tough practices, taking a minute to look around and enjoy the sunshine or catching a glimpse of the occasional rainbow (we saw one today while warming down!) instantly reminds us of how fortunate we are to be here. I look forward to updating you on moments like those, our training, and the activities we have planned while we are here.
Until next time,
Haley Spencer
Go Gophers!
