Minnesota swimmers and divers hit the road for the first time this season as they head south to compete against the University of Wisconsin. Both men's and women's teams will face off in a border battle dual meet in the hopes of adding another Big Ten Conference win onto their year's records. The meet action will be divided up over the weekend into two days, starting Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday Oct. 19, at 11:00 a.m. CT.
The Golden Gopher women's team are coming off two big wins in their season. Claiming the first win over Arizona State at home and then opening up the conference season with a 174.5-125.5 victory over the University of Michigan last weekend Oct. 11; they are looking to stay undefeated as they continue to hold onto the 2012-13 Big Ten Conference Championship title.
The University of Wisconsin Badgers are set to host their first and only home dual competition of the year after losing 361-275 to the University of Georgia. Junior Ivy Martin had stand-out performances in the season opener however when she won both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Her first-place finishes earned her Big Ten Weekly accolades as she was named Big Ten's Swimmer of the Week, the first for Wisconsin this season.
Minnesota was also among the conference weekly leader board when senior diver Sarah McCrady received her first Big Ten Weekly honor of the year as she was named Diver of the Week. In the Michigan dual McCrady took home the three-meter dive event with a score of 336.15. She also finished fourth in the one-meter with a sore of 273.60 and both event scores qualified her for NCAA Zone Diving standards. McCrady's honor marks two weeks in a row that Minnesota has been mentioned in the weekly conference awards.
The rivalry between Minnesota and Wisconsin has been a staple competition in both university's histories. This year will be no different. Going into this weekend's dual, Minnesota Gophers hold an advantage over the Badgers as they have won the last five meetings since 2008.
