Junior midfielder and co-captain Katie Thyken and freshman goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs both earned Big Ten Player of the Week accolades for their performances over the weekend.

The Gophers were able to sweep their last road weekend of the season with a 1-0 double-overtime victory against Wisconsin on Thursday evening and a 2-1 win against Purdue on Sunday afternoon.

Thyken was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. She was able to score both goals for the Golden Gophers on Sunday off of assists from freshman forward Simone Kolander. Thyken is the leading scorer for Minnesota with a career-high tying seven goals over the course of the season. She has 29 shots on the season landing 16 of them on goal for the Golden Gophers. She also has three assists, one of them that helped sophomore forward Haley Helverson score the game-winner against Wisconsin on Thursday evening in double-overtime. This is her first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Hobbs was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Over the weekend, Hobbs combined for 22 saves. Ten of those saves came in the shutout over Wisconsin and twelve from the match on Sunday against Purdue. Hobbs leads the Big Ten in saves, save percentage and saves per game. Last Friday, in the match against Iowa, Hobbs broke the standing record for saves in a single match with 16. She now ranks in the top-five of Minnesota's single season saves list. She now has 108 on the season.
