USTFCCCA National Poll

MINNEAPOLIS -- A day after moving up the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Poll, the University of Minnesota men's cross country team found itself on the organization's national poll on Tuesday.

For the first time this season, the Gophers appear on the USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll, ranking 22nd among Division I programs. Minnesota ranked fourth in Monday's regional poll.

Minnesota's performance at the Notre Dame Invitational last Friday propeled the program into this week's national poll. The Gophers finished fourth behind newly ranked No. 8 Columbia, No. 9 Tulsa and No. 10 Princeton at the event.

Minnesota ranks third among all Big Ten schools in this week's poll -- only No. 12 Indiana and No. 20 Wisconsin rank above the program.

The Gophers are off this weekend before splitting up for a pair of meets on Oct. 19. A contingency will head to Madison, Wis., for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational -- Minnesota's third-straight meet with numerous nationally ranked teams competiting. Another group of Gophers will head to the Jim Drew Invitational in West Salem, Wis.
