In Richard Pitino's debut as the University of Minnesota's head basketball coach, the Golden Gophers won an exhibition game against Cardinal Stritch. Minnesota cruised to a 79-57 victory, led by Austin Hollins' 17 points and DeAndre Mathieu's nine assists. Minnesota shot 31-for-57 (54.4 percent) from the field.

The Gophers set a fast pace early with their full-court pressure and transition offense. They forced nine turnovers and scored eight fast break points in the first half.

Andre Hollins scored nine first-half points on 4-of-6 shooting, while Austin Hollins scored eight on 3-of-5 shooting. Minnesota shot 64.5 percent on its way to a 46-19 halftime lead. The Gophers recorded 15 assists, including five each from Mathieu and Joey King, on 20 made baskets in the first half.

The Wolves out-rebounded the Gophers, 40-34, on the game and trimmed the lead to the teens in the second half. But Minnesota built it back to 22 in the end. In addition to Austin Hollins' 17 points, Joey King and Andre Hollins added 14 and 11, respectively. Derek Semenas led all scorers with 29 points for Cardinal Stritch.

Minnesota will play an exhibition game against Concordia-St. Paul on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. The regular season opener against Lehigh will tip off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
