MINNEAPOLIS – Four different Gophers scored goals as the No. 1 Minnesota women's hockey team recorded a 4-1 win over visiting Minnesota State University in front of 2,731 fans at Ridder Arena Friday night.

Minnesota (9-0-0, 7-0-0 WCHA) scored three unanswered goals after the Mavericks tied the score at 1-1 late in the first period. Junior Rachel Ramsey (Chanhassen, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal on the power-play midway through the second period.

Minnesota State (3-6-0, 0-5-0 WCHA) was led by senior goaltender Danielle Butters, who made 48 saves as the Gophers outshot the Mavericks, 52-14. Sophomore Amanda Leveille (Kingston, Ont.) made 13 saves for the Gophers.

Ramsey led Minnesota with two points on one goal and one assist, and seniors Kelly Terry (Whitby, Ont.) and Sarah Davis (Paradise, N.L.) each added two assists.

Freshman forward Kate Schipper (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) opened the scoring at the 15:56 mark of the first period, but Minnesota State responded with a four-on-three power-play goal by Tracy McCann with 2.5 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

The Gophers scored three-straight goals, including Ramsey's game-winner at 12:32 of the second period. Sophomore forward Brook Garzone (Sand Springs, Okla.) netted her first goal of the season to put the Gophers up 3-1 with less than four minutes remaining in the second period.

Freshman forward Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) capped the Gophers' scoring at 8:52 of the third period with a power-play tally on assists from sophomore Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and Terry.

Minnesota allowed a power-play goal for the first time in five games after killing off 15-straight penalties from Oct. 11 to Oct. 26. The Gophers were 2-for-5 with the man advantage while holding the Mavericks to 1-for-4 on the power play.

The home-and-home series wraps up at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn., at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
