The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that University of Minnesota redshirt freshman center Amanda Zahui B. was named the Big Ten Women's Basketball Player and Freshman of the Week after averaging 13.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and 3.0 assists in victories over Kansas and Navy.

Zahui B. posted just the fourth triple-double in program history, and the first in the Big Ten since 2012, in the Golden Gophers' win over Kansas Wednesday night with 11 points, 11 rebounds and a program-record 10 blocks, while also adding five assists. It was the first triple-double by a Gopher since March 5, 2004, when Janel McCarville had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals, and it was also the first point-rebound-block triple-double in school history.

Mary Manderfeld held the previous Minnesota record for blocks in a single game with eight, a record that had stood for 32 years before Zahui B. shattered it vs. the Jayhawks.

Zahui B. followed up that performance with her third double-double in her last four games Sunday afternoon in the win over Navy with 16 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks.

The last Gopher to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors was Micaëlla Riché on March 4, 2013, while the last Gopher to be named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week was Kayla Hirt on Jan. 7, 2013.
