Final Stats

The No. 9 University of Minnesota volleyball team defeated Iowa, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20, tonight at the Sports Pavilion in front of 4,021 fans. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 22-4 this season and 10-3 in the Big Ten Conference.

Adrianna Nora led the Gopher offense when she had 14 kills, committed just one error in 31 attempts to hit .419. Ashley Wittman, Tori Dixon, Daly Santana and Hannah Tapp all had eight kills. Alexandra Palmer produced a double-double when she had 37 assists and a match-high 14 digs. Lindsey Lawmaster had 13 digs, while Wittman followed with 11. Despite Iowa out-blocking the Gophers, 8-4, Minnesota led in kills (47-36) and outhit Iowa, .256 to .184.

Minnesota plays No. 11 Nebraska, Sunday, at 3:30 p.m. The match will also be televised live on the Big Ten Network.

Notables:
-Tapp tied a career-high eight kills in the win. She also hit a career-best, .778 (8-1-9)
-Nora has had 53 kills in the last four matches
-Palmer added her ninth double-double of the season

First Set: Santana, Wittman and Nora all had five kills to lead the Gophers in the first set. Tied at seven, Minnesota used a four-point run, which paced the Gophers to a 1-0 lead. After a kill from Wittman, Palmer went back to serve and on her rotation, Minnesota had three kills from Wittman and one from Nora to take an 11-7 lead. The Gophers went up 16-11 on an Iowa attack error and 20-15 on another kill from Wittman. The Gophers would close out the set on kills from Nora and Santana, both their fifth to win 25-21.
Second Set: Tied at 8-8, Minnesota would use a 5-0 lead to help the Gophers to a 13-8 lead, which assisted the Gophers to a 25-18 second set win. After a Dixon kill, a block by Tapp and Nora, Palmer provided an ace for an 11-8 lead. The Gophers would add to their lead on an Iowa attack error and a kill from Nora before the Hawkeyes ended the run with a block. Iowa cut the lead to 20-17 on a Gopher attack error, but Minnesota finished on a 5-1 run to go up, 2-0. Tapp added back-to-back kills for the 23rd and set point, while Nora closed off the set with her ninth kill of the night.
Third Set: Minnesota erased a 13-8 deficit to come back and defeat the Hawkeyes in three, 25-20. Iowa came out of the intermission and jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Iowa led 13-8 on back-to-back blocks and a kill from Erin Radke. Minnesota, however, went on a 5-0 run to tie the set at 13. In the run, Minnesota had two kills from Dixon, a block, a kill from Nora and forced an Iowa attack error to tie the set. From there, the two teams tied three times before the Gophers used a three-point run for a 19-16 lead. Minnesota would finish off the set and the match with a kill from Santana and back-to-back kills from Nora, her 13th and 14th of the night.
