Senior Brock Vereen has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Jan. 18 game, which kicks off at 3 p.m. CST at Tropicana Field, will be televised on NFL Network.
Vereen is the first Gopher since Greg Eslinger in 2006 to make a Shrine Game roster. He is the second Minnesota player this season to accept an all-star game invitation, as Ra'Shede Hageman will play in the Reese's Senior Bowl.
Vereen switched from safety to cornerback during the season and earned All-Big Ten First Team accolades from the conference coaches. The 12-game starter totaled 56 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, one interception and six pass breakups, and also forced one fumble this year.
