Gophers fall to No. 2 UCLA To Even Series

No. 2 UCLA scored seven innings in the first three innings en route to a 14-0 win over the University of Minnesota, today, in Los Angeles. After a 6-2, 10-inning win against the Bruins yesterday, Minnesota fell to 1-1 this year in the season-opening series.
Dan Olinger led the Gopher offense when he went 2-3, while Bobby Juan was 2-4. Andy Henkemeyer extended his hit streak to 14-straight games, dating back to last season. He was 3-5 last night and 1-3 in the loss. Overall, Minnesota scattered six hits, while UCLA had 16.
Ben Meyer started in his third collegiate game and was credited with the loss when he allowed five earned runs. Dalton Sawyer pitched 1.1 innings in his collegiate debut and allowed two earned runs, while Drew Ghelfi allowed two earned runs. Juan came in to pitch the last inning, making his first pitching appearance since his freshman season. In the frame, Juan allowed one hit and struck out two in the four batters he faced.
UCLA pushed across three in the bottom of the first. Kevin Kramer drove in two runs after Eric Filia led off the game with a single and Ty Moore doubled. Chris Keck would then provide a sacrifice fly and plated Kramer for the third run. With a runner on first, and one out, the Gopher catcher Kurt Schlangen threw out Pat Valaika as he was caught stealing, while Darrell Miller Jr. struck out to end the inning.
UCLA pushed another two across in both the second and third to go up, 7-0 by the third inning. After Trent Chatterton singled in the second, Filia hit a two-run home run over the 330 fence in right field. In the third inning, UCLA scored a pair of unearned runs when both Miller Jr. and Brenton Allen each hit a RBI single to grow the Bruin lead to 7-0.
UCLA plated another five on three hits and two errors in the fifth inning. Filia drove in both Allen and Chatterton on a single and an error for two runs, while Ty Moore reached on an error and scored Filia. After a Moore scored on a single, Kramer scored on a sacrifice fly from Miller Jr. The Bruins plated another run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings for the final.
Minnesota will regroup and look to win the series tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT.
