MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's indoor track and field program swept this week's Big Ten Conference awards with seniors Micah Hegerle and Harun Abda picking up league honors after stand-out performances at Friday's Snowshoe Open.

Hegerle was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week after winning the weight throw at 21.84 meters - the second best throw in the nation this year and the best in the Big Ten. The senior also nearly matched his school record in the event. Today's honor marks Hegerle's fourth career indoor track and field weekly honor and the first of the season.

Abda was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week after picking up an individual title in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.68. The senior's time ranks second in the Big Ten and sixth in the NCAA this season while Abda's finish at the Snowshoe Open set a new University of Minnesota Fieldhouse record. Today's honor marks Abda's second career indoor track and field weekly honor and the first of the season.

Minnesota returns to action this weekend with the 2013 Big Ten Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
