Gophers Drop Rematch at Nebraska

The University of Minnesota women's basketball team dropped its Big Ten rematch at Nebraska, 80-56, Sunday afternoon at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb. Micaëlla Riché and Rachel Banhamboth scored in double figures for the Golden Gophers, with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Riché also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and had two blocks for the Golden Gophers (14-9, 3-6 B1G)
Minnesota shot .414 (24-58) in the contest, but had 19 turnovers compared to just nine turnovers for the Huskers (16-6, 6-3).
After jumping out to a 5-0 lead thanks to a layup from Riche and a three-pointer from Sari Noga, Minnesota allowed Nebraska to go on a 6-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 6-5, at 16:17.
Banham's first basket of the game at 11:39 pulled the Gophers to within two points of the Huskers, 16-14, but a 9-2 run from Nebraska put Minnesota in a nine-point hole with 16:04 to play in the half. The Gophers would trail by as many as 14 points in the half, before cutting the deficit to eight points, 38-30, with a minute remaining, which would be the score at halftime.
Riche paced Minnesota with seven points and two blocks in the first 20 minutes of action, while Banham and Kayla Hirt each chipped in six points. Noga was the team's leader with five rebounds, with Katie Lobergadding three rebounds and four points.
The Gophers outshot the Huskers, .462 (12-26) to .452 (14-31) in the first half, but Nebraska held the advantage on the boards, 18-14, and scored 12 points off of nine Minnesota turnovers.
An early basket from Riche pulled the Gophers to within six points of the home team early, 38-32, but the Huskers ran away with the game from there, taking a 28-point lead with 3:26 to play in the game, 78-50.
The hole would be too deep for Minnesota to climb out of, as it would fall, 80-56, in its final game at the Devaney Center.
The Gophers return to Williams Arena to face #24/25 Iowa Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on BTN with Brenda VanLengen and Stephanie White on the call.
