Josh Hall will lead the Gophers in the 100 breast Friday night

Following the preliminaries of Friday's events at the Big Ten Championships, seven Gopher swimmers will be competing in tonight's finals.

Underclassmen Brandon Hatanaka and Luke Bushman will represent Minnesota in the consolation final of the 400 IM. Hatanaka finished 14th with a time of 3:50.56, while Bushman sealed up the last spot in 3:51.42 for 16th.

In the 100 fly, Sandy Whitaker will be the only Gopher competing in the event. With a time of 48.27, the junior will swim in the 16th seed in the consolation final tonight.

Minnesota will also send one to the consolation final in the 200 free Friday night. Senior Hrvoje Capan earned the 10th seed after touching the wall at 1:36.55.

The Gophers had their strongest event of the Championships in the 100 breast Friday morning, qualifying three men to the championship final. Josh Hall will lead the group in the fifth seed after his time of 53.19. Close behind, Jared Anderson finished in 53.28 for sixth and Max Cartwright came in seventh with a time of 53.45.

Friday's finals of the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships take place at 5:30 pm (CT). The order of events are as followed: 200 freestyle relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 3 meter diving.
