Gophers Finish Eighth at 2013 Clover Cup

The University of Minnesota women's golf team shot a second consecutive combined round of 304 and finished in eighth place at the 2013 Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. The Gophers' 54-hole score of 904 was just eight shots shy of seventh play Florida International and 12 shots shy of fifth place Notre Dame.
Oklahoma won the event going away with a team total of 862, 18 shots better than second place SMU. The Sooners were the only team to finish the tournament under par. Texas Tech finished third with a team score of 882, nine shots ahead of fourth place Tulsa.
Gopher sophomore Anna Laorr captured her second career top-20 finish with a career-low 54-hole score of 223 (73-74-76) and finished in a tie for 19th place. Junior Banchalee Theinthong shot a closing round 78 to finish with a 54-hole score of 226 (74-74-78) and finish in a tie for 28th place.
Sophomore Carmen Laguna paced the Gophers on Sunday with a two over par 74. Her 54-hole score of 227 tied her one other player for 32nd place. Senior Jackie Shepherd finished alone in 53rd place while sophomore Sarinee Thitiratanakorn finished in a tie for 59th place.
Up next for Minnesota will be a trip to St. George, Utah on March 18-19 to take part in the BYU Entrada Classic.
