For the first time since 2010, the Gopher men's basketball team (20-12) was selected for the NCAA tournament Sunday, March 17, as a No. 11 seed to play Friday against No. 6 seed UCLA in Austin, Texas. The Gophers were placed in the tournament's South Region.
The Bruins (25-9) won the regular season Pac-12 championship, but they lost to Oregon in the conference tournament title game.
Minnesota's last two NCAA Tournament appearances came in 2009 (76-62 loss to Texas) and 2010 (65-54 loss to Xavier).
If the Gophers advance they would play the winner of No. 3 Florida (26-7) vs. No. 14 Northwestern State (23-8) in the third round.
