Ben Meyer has been selected as the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, announced today by the conference office. It is the first-ever weekly award for Meyer and Minnesota's first Pitcher of the Week honor this year.

Meyer pitched the Gophers to a 4-1 win over Utah in conjunction with the Dairy Queen Classic this past weekend. In a career-high 8.0 innings of work, Meyer allowed one unearned run, scattered three hits and struck out five, also a career high. The Saturday starter has improved his numbers each week and is now 1-2 on the season. Defensively, he also had three putouts and one assist Saturday. For his efforts, he was named to the Dairy Queen Classic's All-Tournament Team. The last Gopher pitcher to receive Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors was TJ Oakes in 2012.

Minnesota returns to action this Wednesday March 6, against Hamline at 6:35 p.m. The Gophers then host Western Illinois, March 8-10, also at the Dome. Game times are 6:35 p.m. Friday, 2:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
