Laura Docherty of the University of Minnesota women's track and field team completed her junior season on Friday night as she finished 18th in the 5,000-meter run at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The St. Paul, Minn. native, who currently ranks third in school history, reached the NCAA Championships for the first time and experienced the aura of Track Town USA. In the Friday nightcap, Docherty ran 16:24.02 to claim 18th in the 5,000 meters. She earned All-American Honorable Mention status for her efforts.
On top of earning a trip to Eugene, Docherty also broke the school record in the 10,000 meters back on March 27 at the Stanford Invitational.
With the Gophers' season coming to a complete, so does the 28-year coaching career of Gary Wilson. During his career, he guided the women's cross country team to 13 NCAA Championship appearances and guided the women's track & field to 14 scoring performances at NCAA Track & Field Championships.
