RECORDS: University of Minnesota (7-3-0, 0-2-0 Big Ten); Michigan State (7-1-2, 1-1-0 Big Ten).

The University of Minnesota women's soccer team opened a Big Ten weekend against the Michigan State Spartans on Friday afternoon. The Gophers could not capitalize on scoring opportunities despite leading the Spartans in shots 21-13. In the end, the Gophers were defeated by the Spartans 3-0.  

The Gophers improved their overall record to 7-2-0 on the season going into Big Ten play next weekend against Michigan and Michigan State. The Gophers are now 2-2 on the road after wins over Iowa State and Jacksonville and losses to Florida and Indiana. 

The Gophers now have an overall record of 7-3-0 and are 0-2-0 in Big Ten play. Michigan State was able to improve their overall record to 7-1-2 and win their first Big Ten game of the year. 

GOPHER STAND OUT PERFORMANCES

Freshman goalkeeper, Tarah Hobbs, once again had a stand out performance for the Golden Gophers. Playing in her seventh game this season, Hobbs was able to make nine saves. This is her second consecutive game with nine saves. 

Sophomore Haley Helverson lead the Gophers in shots on goal with three. Junior Taylor Wodnick followed with two. Despite these stand out performances the Gophers were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities and ultimately fell to Michigan State. 

Helverson leads the team in shots this season with 21. 

WHAT IS NEXT:

The Gophers will finish their third consecutive weekend on the road with a match against No. 13 Michigan. Michigan faces Wisconsin Friday evening. The Gophers will play the Wolverines on Sunday at 12 p.m CT. The game will be able to viewed on the Big Ten Network Sunday afternoon.
