Freshman Jose Mendez turned in his second consecutive top-15 performance as the University of Minnesota men's golf team finished eighth at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. Host New Mexico (-1) won the tournament in Albuquerque, N.M., by 18 strokes over runner-up Arizona State.
The Gophers' combined score was a 39-over 903. Mendez, who tied for 14th, carded a team-low 74 (+2) on Saturday. He made four bogeys and two birdies in the final round. Mendez had a solid weekend, with scores of 75 and 73 on Friday.
New Mexico's Andrej Bevins and Gavin Green tied for medalist honors at 211 (-5).
