Gophers Set for Windy City Collegiate Classic

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's golf team returns to action early next week with the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Highland Park, Ill. Northwestern and Northmoor Country Club host the two-day, 54-hole tournamet with some of the top Division I teams in the nation competing in the action.

Gophers Expected to Compete
Minnesota will send the following golfers to the Windy City Collegiate Classic: Anna Laorr, Carmen Laguna, Banchalee Theinthong, Sarinee Thitiratanakor and Emie Peronnin. The Gophers' lineup is identical to Minnesota's lineup from the Minnesota Invitational earlier this month.
Last Time Out
The Gophers opened the 2013 fall season with a third-place finish at the Minnesota Invitational on Sept. 16-17. Minnesota's first home tournament in eight years saw the host institution score a 309-299-303--911 for the event, paced by Anna Laorr's 13th-place finish. Laorr shot a +13, 77-76-76--229 while Carmen Laguna and Banchalee Theinthong finished one stroke behind Laorr in a tie for 14th.
Gophers Ranked 37th
Minnesota ranks 37th this week in Golfstat's national Division I rankings. Golfstat coordinates its rankings based on division comparitive wins -- a round-robin and head-to-head comparison of all teams. The Gophers's figure in the latest rankings is 80.449% after finishing third out of 12 teams at the Minnesota Invitational last week at the Minikahda Club in Minneapolis.
Tough Field This Weekend
Joining the Gophers this weekend at the Windy City Collegiate Classic a number of nationally ranked opponents according to Golfstat: USC (2), Oklahoma State (5), Arizona (10), Florida (12), Iowa State (14), Stanford (15), Georgia (17), Louisville (22), Ohio State (24) and Northwestern (33).
