Box Score

The Minnesota (12-7, 1-4) women's basketball team got a combined 54 points from Rachel Banham and Amanda Zahui B., but it was not enough as the Gophers lost their second-straight overtime contest, 83-78, at Indiana (15-3, 2-3) Sunday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind.

Banham notched 29 points, seven assists and five rebounds in the losing effort, while Zahui added 25 points, which included 20 after the half, seven rebounds and five blocks. Kayla Hirt also scored in double-figures for the Maroon and Gold, as she finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Sari Noga was the team-leader with eight total rebounds.

Minnesota outshot Indiana, .467-.380, but lost the battle on the boards, 48-37. The Hoosiers were able to grab 20 offensive rebounds in the game, which led to 20 second-chance points for the home team.

The Gophers entered halftime with a 39-37 advantage following a first half that saw 11 lead changes. Each team led by as many as five points though the first 20 minutes of play with the Gophers taking their five-point lead with just 23 seconds remaining on the clock. But, a three-pointer by Indiana's Larryn Brooks with 1 second to play cut the Gophers' advantage to two points at the break.

Banham finished the opening stanza with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, while Hirt concluded the half just two points off of her career-high with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Riche paced Minnesota with five rebounds, while Zahui added four boards.

Minnesota notched a .500 (17-34) field goal percentage in the first half and outrebounded the Hoosiers, 20-16.

Indiana opened up the second half on a 23-11 run to take its largest lead of the contest, 60-50, with 8:48 to play in the contest. The Gophers slowly made their way back into the game before finally taking the lead back, 69-68, at 1:12 on a layup from Zahui which capped a 19-8 run by the Maroon and Gold. The Hoosiers retook the lead with a layup at the 1:01 mark and Banham tied the game 70-70 with a free throw. Indiana had two chances to close out the game under their basket, but couldn't capitalize and the Gophers headed into overtime for the second-straight contest.

The two teams battled back and forth though the majority of overtime, but  pair of three-pointers from the Hoosiers, including one with 53 seconds to play, were too much for Minnesota to overcome. The Gophers had a chance to tie the game late in OT, but couldn't get it to fall.

Minnesota returns to Williams Arena Thursday, Jan. 23 for an 8:00 p.m. contest against Wisconsin on BTN.
