Gold Wins Steak 'n' Beans Series

Toby Hanson went 2-for-4 with two doubles for Gold, while Matt Fiedler, Skjefte, Stemper and Kyle Crocker each tallied two hits for Maroon. Ben Meyer (Gold), Matt Fiedler and Tim Shannon (both Maroon) had scoreless outings on the mound. Meyer and Fiedler each struck out four batters.
In the final game of the series, Gold scored in the bottom of the first and stayed ahead the rest of the way. Connor Schaefbauer doubled and scored on Jordan Smith's single. Luke Pettersen scored Gold's second run in the fourth on an error. Troy Traxler had two hits for Maroon.
Lucas Gilbreath, Fred Manke and Toby Anderson combined for the shutout. Joe Martinson, Cody Campbell, Brian Glowicki and Reggie Meyer pitched for Maroon.
Over the fall, Toby Hanson hit .381 (.905 slugging) with two home runs, a triple, three doubles and eight RBIs. Fiedler batted .389. Ben Meyer (0.00 ERA, 14 strikeouts) and Gilbreath (0.00 ERA, 12 strikeouts) were the Gophers' pitching leaders.
The Gold team went 4-1-1 against Maroon to win the Steak 'n' Beans series. The teams tied 3-3 on Friday, Oct. 10 and Gold won 2-0 on Sunday, Oct. 12 to conclude fall ball.
Maroon took a 1-0 lead in the second when Matt Stemper hit in Tony Skjefte. Alex Boxwell's bases-clearing double in the fourth put Gold ahead 3-1. Maroon tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
