MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Sophomore midfielder Josee Stiever was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals for the University of Minnesota women's soccer team this weekend as announced by the conference office on Mondday afternoon. Stiever shares the Offensive Player of the Week honor with Rutgers sophomore Madison Tiernan while Genevieve Richard of Wisconsin and Casey Murphy of Rutgers shared Defensive Player of the Week honors. Murphy was also named Freshman of the Week.

Stiever combined for two goals on the weekend as the Gophers defeated Nebraska, 3-1, and Illinois, 2-1. She fired four shots, three on target, for the Maroon and Gold over the weekend. Stiever is the second Gopher to recieve the Offensive Player of the Week honor this season. The first was Simone Kolander in the first week of the season.

On Thursday, Stiever scored the equalizer in the 42nd minute of play to open the flood gates for three unanswered goals for the Gophers. On Sunday, Stiever scored the first goal to give Minnesota the 1-0 lead over the University of Illinois. The Maroon and Gold would go on to defeat the Illini, 2-1, in a double overtime battle.

With the two goals this weekend, Stiever has a total of four goals on the season combined with three assists for a total of 11 points this season. The sophomore tallied her first point of the season in the Gophers 10-0 rout of Stetson to open the season while her first goal of the season was in the Gophers 3-2 loss to Ole Miss on Sept. 5. Stiever earned the overtime victory for the Gophers in the opening weekend of conference play against Michigan State on Sept. 15. She has started each match of the season for the Maroon and Gold with the exception of the Iowa match where senior Taylor Wodnick started in her place for Senior Day.

Last season, Stiever accumulated seven points after scoring three goals and one assist in her rookie campaign. She was named to the 2013 All-Freshman Team and ended the season on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Top 100 Freshman Postseason list (48).

The Gophers will host border rival Wisconsin on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed via BTN Plus.
